IDC research shows that on a typical day, 19 million people go online web to research a product, and that for 2006, online retail purchases will exceed $100 billion. However, that is just the tip of the iceberg.   Beyond sourcing product, human basic social needs are clearly exhibited in this social web of interactions.  This social network increasingly organizes itself around people and less so around files and folders -- connections are social, not just content.  This keynote snapshots IDC Enterprise/Consumer 2.0 survey data and reveals interesting behaviour traits and concerns that will help in vendors/consumers establish a better social web.  Emerging business models and trends will be discussed alongside standards that help to bridge the social web.   Social web is evolving with communication and networking mechanisms improving.  It is ulmost to understand what options are available and to start leveraging the social web both for social needs and competitive improvements.

Web 2.0 is a meme that has penetrated the public consciousness for close to four years. Google's successful IPO essentially kickstarted the boom in innovation that has once again brought life to Silicon Valley. In the past half a decade, over 40B of VC money has been invested into the industry. Corridors of innovation have also sprouted up beyond SV. From ZhongGuanCun in Beijing to TelAviv in Isreal, London, Sydney, Seoul and Hong Kong startups have emerged; either tackling problems on a global basis or a presenting a localized twist.

Is Asia awakening to Web 2.0? What are some of the interesting projects sprouting out of Asia? Who are the people to watch for? What are the technologies, techniques and memes that will be useful for corporations? Justin will share some of the technologies, trends and challenges of today and the potential that we have in Asia.

Michael A. Netzley Michael A. Netzley

Digital natives, those who are mostly of secondary and tertiary school age, are entering the workforce and becoming citizens with discretionary spending power.  While businesses are typically happy to welcome fresh talent or market to new customers, this generation also offers us some unique challenges.  By examining how Web 2.0 is being used in education, we can catch a glimpse of how this younger generation is learning, communicating, working, and networking differently than Generation X or the Baby Boomers.  Consequently, businesses need to rethink a whole range of issues from allowing social networking and instant messaging in the workplace, to how we market and communicate with key stakeholders.
