| "The good news is that governments in these countries are seeking to further advance their nations' evolution into information societies. They are taking steps to promote progress across computer usage, telecom infrastructure, Internet access, and social factors. Major opportunities for rapid advancement are presented by the development of "leapfrog" technologies in the wireless arena, and the advantage of many developing nations exists in their not being faced with the costs and complexity of replacing large, legacy infrastructures of outdated technology platforms. The IT Market from the Emerging Economies of Asia (Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, and India) are worth $96 billion in 2007 and is expected to reach nearly $144 billion by 2011. In combination, these countries account for the equivalent of 25% of the Western European IT market, or 90% the size of the Japanese IT market. The rewards and opportunities in these countries are great, but investments need to be calculated and targeted at focused segments of the market. Monitoring developments in these technology markets is our job, and we are proud to say that IDC has now over 100 employees in these countries alone, making us the leader in Emerging Asia. Our broad research coverage is designed to meet the tactical needs of country sales and marketing managers as well as the more strategic requirements of regional and global executives. |
