Building the Enterprise Cloud: Understanding the Opportunity
The changing times have put pressure on the economic efficiencies and a viable return on all capital investments a business makes including IT. The last 12 months have further exacerbated this sentiment thereby focusing IT end-users to contemplate alternative means in building their IT in the future. However, this is easier said than done, since there ar many a challenges in existing legacy, maintaining compliance and the ever evolving security issues.
Our research with end-users and line of business have underscored two prominent IT issues they wish to resolve. The CIOs feel Datacenter transformation is the fundamental goal, while the line of business need IT that better serves their customers for both growth and retention. Keeping these goals in view its a forgone conclusion that the current IT model needs to be revamped, and that it needs to be built and delivered in new ways.
The concept of "cloud computing" is very interesting as it promises to deliver more flexibility, better cost optimization, green and faster turnaround. Many feel this to be a panacea for many of their current challenges. However, there is also a lot of apprehension around exactly what can or cant be out on the cloud.
In this presentation, IDC will endeavor to explain the direction the industry has taken so far, and discuss the opportunities and challenges customers face in that regard.

Roadmap for Enterprise Cloud: Are You Ready?
Hemant Shah, ASEAN Executive: Infrastructure Business, Systems & Technology Group: Sales Program, IBM
Cloud Computing is a solution looking for a problem to solve, because of the intense hype that surrounds it. There is a need to separate the infrastructure of Cloud Computing, from the services that will be delivered through this infrastructure. There is also a need to make a distinction between who is the consumer of the infrastructure, and that of the various services on top of that cloud infrastructure. This session will look at one specific combination that addresses one of the more intense issues that large enterprises face in terms of their IT services. What is now labelled as a "private" Cloud, is an in-house infrastructure, capable of being elastic, automated, provisioned and extensible. The session will trace the roadmap of evolving such an infrastructure from a current status of one-job-one-server! The audience can then think about where they are, what are their problems, which a evolving cloud infrastructure would address!
