9:15 am Implications of Fixed Mobile Convergence on Dynamic IT Infrastructure
    Bill Rojas Bill Rojas
Research Director, Asia/Pacific Communications Research, IDC Asia/Pacific
FMC is going to trigger restructuring and changes in the business structure and in the network infrastructure of carriers. FMC will threaten some legacy services but create new opportunities for fixed and mobile carriers to compete in each other's spaces. New technologies such as IPTV, mobile TV, location-aware and context aware functions, WiMAX, mesh networking, peer-to-peer computing, software defined radio equipment, IPv6 upgrades to the internet equipment, and multi-mode mobile devices will place new demands on the IT infrastructure in terms of storage requirements, billing, customer care, decision support, and IP-based applications. In this presentation IDC will look at the impact that FMC will have on each of the layers in the network infrastructure - Access, Control, Transport, Routing/Switching, Gateways, and Build & Service - in order to understand better how FMC impacts IT and related systems integration at carriers.

9:45 am Managing Security for the Mobile Workforce
    Keith Chan Keith Chan
Solutions Architect, Sybase Asia Pacific

According to IDC, insufficient security is among the Top 3 reasons cited by enterprises in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), which prevented them from deploying enterprise mobility in their organization. As mobile technology drives the next wave of enterprise computing, your management and security requirements cross new boundaries and invoke a whole new set of challenges that need to be addressed. At the same time, you must ensure your mobile workers have the information they need - when they need it.

If your success depends on having the right strategy and solutions in place to control your mobile deployments without compromising productivity or security, then you'll be interested in the following information on Mobile Management and Security.

In this session, we will highlight the risks and exposures that mobile data and devices face, and address how companies should advantageously manage and secure them. We will also discuss effective management and security solutions that companies can implement to protect data and devices without compromising the productivity and reliability of their mobile workers.

  10:45 am Unified Communications Strategy
    Roy Wakim Roy Wakim
Director, Converged Solutions & Analyst Relations, Avaya Asia Pacific

The combination of IP networks and ubiquitous connectivity has created a world that seems much smaller today than it did in the past. Many organizations have introduced new tools to communicate better across the extend enterprise. But these tools alone aren't enough to truly harness the power of the extended enterprise. To achieve this, companies need to deploy an intelligent communications strategy that combines traditional communications and collaboration tools with business applications. Find out how Avaya unified communications strategy brings together all the collaborative tools that users need, providing an integrated unified interface across their different devices and interfaces.

11:15 am Mobile Security for the CIO
      Christopher Kwok
Manager, Technical Services, Asia Pacific, Research In Motion

11:45 am FMC - A Question of Security
    Tony Poulos Tony Poulos
Vice President of Strategic Relations, Asia, Reef Point Systems

Prominent service provider standards bodies (3GPP, 3GPP2, ETSI, CableLabs) have specified security as fundamental in their next-generation Fixed-Mobile Convergence (FMC) architectures:

  • Unlicensed Mobile Access
  • IP Multimedia Subsystem
  • Picocells and Femtocells
  • IMS over WiMAX
  • Wireless LAN Access

Operators will need to address the full set of session-oriented convergence control functions (e.g. access termination, privacy, security, policy management, QoS) that the diverse FMC standards require:

  • Mobility - deploy access control solutions for all industry standard-specified FMC architectures (i.e., IMS BGF & P-CSCF, Wireless LAN PDG, UMA and other functions)
  • IP - meet high-performance and massive scalability requirements for handling FMC-based, VoIP and always-on multimedia services.
  • Personalization - built-in session-aware intelligence and policy control for customized, per-subscriber services.

A typical FMC subscriber will have multiple devices (laptop, mobile phone, PDA, etc.) simultaneously registered, multiple always-on applications (VoIP, instant messaging, IP TV, web browsing, video messaging and/or gaming), as well as always constantly changing registrations when roving between CDMA/GSM and WiFi/WiMAX connections.

This presentation will outline and investigate what operators will need to be aware of as they enter the FMC world of next generation networks and IMS.

12:15 pm Join the Debate: "Winning strategies for an FMC head start"
John Chiu Moderated by John Chiu
Chairman, Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association
Understandably, IT managers are concerned about how to approach FMC and what are the right choices for early returns on FMC investments. Join the discussion on the strategies that will help your organization maximize the gains from FMC adoption and avoid pitfalls. Voice your concerns and opinions and get valuable viewpoints and recommendations from our expert panel consisting of IDC Analysts and other noted Industry experts.
