The Asia/Pacific Java for Government Forum 2004

"Java Heats Up: Open Standards Enabling eGovernment"

In the past, government agencies and ministries acted as individuals, running on separate systems and performing multiple processes that devoured valuable investment and human resources. Today, government departments are coming together to build platforms to act as "one company" through streamlining applications and implementing solutions that cut, or even eliminate, precious IT infrastructure costs.

The Java Heats Up: Open Standards Enabling eGoverment is an industry roadshow that brings together industry experts and government organizations to discuss key issues and options available today that can help governments to meet key IT and business objectives, such as increasing interoperability and scalability, while reducing cost and complexity.

This half-day event will feature presentations from senior IDC industry analysts and invited IT vendors, who will outline IT and business issues faced by government organizations and the direction that governments are taking to help them 'do more with less'. It will also explore Java adoption trends witnessed around the world and the Java-based solutions that can set the groundwork for future IT investments within your organization.

Fast Facts:

  • Asia/Pacific government IT spending will increase at a five-year CAGR of 11.9% from US$10.29 billion in 2003, to US$18.03 billion in 2008.
  • This growth is a result of the region-wide belief among governments of the importance of IT, and a desire to see IT investments improve governance.
  • Improvements range from a focus on cost cutting in Australia and Singapore, to modernization efforts in developing ASEAN countries, India, and the People's Republic of China (PRC), to increasing investments in egovernment services in Korea, Taiwan, and Malaysia.
  • IDC expects modernization efforts to drive regional government IT spending over the forecast period. Spending will reach US$18.0 billion by 2007, for a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 11.9% from 2003 to 2008.
  • We also recognize that the region's government IT infrastructures will steadily mature - this trend will increase the region's software and services spend, with both segments growing at double digit CAGRs of 15.8% and13.8%, respectively, from 2003 to 2008.
