"Mobilution" might be a new term in the dictionary but it is not a new concept to most of us. Daily mobile connectivity is increasing rapidly globally and Asia Pacific is no exception. 61% of the Digital Consumers in China and 43% in India are accessing Internet via their mobile phones daily. Consumers thirst to stay connected and some of the markets with the lowest internet penetration conversely have some of the highest mobile connectivity rates. Connectivity for Consumer Electronics is no longer an optional add-on, it is a global demand.
The need to stay connected also manifests itself in the growth of mobile internet activities. A year ago mobile social networking was a somewhat marginal activity that varied dramatically by country. But since then it has picked up worldwide. In fact, mobile social networking showed the strongest proportional growth of any mobile internet activity, increasing 65% globally and virtually exploding across emerging markets. And there are early signs that this is happening for media tablets as well.
With the increased number of connected devices like Smart Phones, Mini Notebooks, Media Tablets, Notebook PCs and TVs, and the hundreds of thousands of applications and their various platforms, a detailed understanding of consumer behavior and brand perception is becoming critical for vendor strategies.
In this briefing, IDC Asia/Pacific will present mobility and connectivity trends among consumers in Asia/Pacific and globally, and the opportunities and key challenges unfolding for both device manufacturers and carriers. |
