Brad Garlinghouse Senior Vice President of Communications and Communities, Yahoo!
Brad Garlinghouse is the Senior Vice President of Communications & Communities at Yahoo!. In this role, Brad is responsible for several of the company’s most visible and critical businesses that enable the Yahoo! community to communicate and collaborate with others more easily. Additionally, Brad and his team are leading the strategic vision for social efforts across Yahoo!.
The communications and communities services that Brad leads include Yahoo! Mail, one of the world’s most popular webmail services; Yahoo! Messenger, the #1 instant messaging provider with the highest time spent per user; Yahoo! Groups, used by approximately one in ten people on the Internet; Flickr, one of the fastest growing online communities in the industry; and Zimbra, leader in next generation email and collaboration software. During his tenure at Yahoo!, Brad also oversaw the primary starting points to the Yahoo! network - Yahoo.com, the world's most heavily trafficked webpage, and My Yahoo!, the most popular personalized start page on the web.
Brad joined Yahoo! in March 2003 as Vice President of Communications Products. In this role, Brad led Yahoo! Mail's growth into the world's leading webmail service, drove the introduction of innovative new features in Yahoo! Messenger, led the team that introduced the newly redesigned homepage for Yahoo.com and championed the acquisition of Zimbra to help Yahoo! expand the company’s presence in universities, with small- and medium-sized businesses, and with ISPs. Prior to joining Yahoo!, Brad served as chief executive officer of Dialpad Communications, one of the world's largest providers of PC-based telecommunications services.
Earlier in his career, Brad led venture capital investments in software, communications and Internet-based businesses at @Ventures. He also spent time in product and marketing leadership positions at @Home Network, and SBC Communications.
Brad earned a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University, and a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Kansas. In his free time, Brad participates in triathlons and is a private pilot. He lives in Menlo Park with his wife and three children.
