Technology adoption used to start at the workplace and diffuses to the homes. Now its the other way round, ranging from Blackberry wielding executives who demand that the enterprise infrastructure supports it, to enthusiasts bringing their blogging, social networking and file sharing routines to work, or hardworking folks using thumb drives to bring work home (and causing a breach of privacy regulations).  These 'everyday things' are causing IT threats and concerns that have not been thought of before. What are innocuous activities that we do everyday at home are introducing waves of security implications when done at the workplace. Wikis, RSS feeds, mashups, Web 2.0 and interactive technologies are also infiltrating the enterprises and changing how employees are interacting with the enterprise IT infrastructure in a fundamental manner. Not to mention RFID, ubiquitous computing and SOAs, which have machines interacting with machines. What does IDC see across the horizon? Are we all ready to face these threats from the new era?

9:45 am The Future of Secure Application Delivery
    Kunaciilan Nallappan Kunaciilan Nallappan
Product Marketing Manager, Application Networking Group, Pacific, Citrix Systems, Inc.

The traditional boundaries of trust for IT have eroded. Organizations are becoming more distributed, employees are more mobile and applications being developed today are becoming web-based. Well-defended network perimeters are no longer sufficient and newer application types may require additional protection. As the line between external and internal networks blurs, data protection must be reinvented and expanded to incorporate networks, applications and endpoints. In addition to solving technology challenges, IT departments must tear down organizational barriers and truly collaborate so the data security strategy can provide full coverage as well as flexibility for growth.

10:15 am Addressing Insider Threats: Strategies for Effective Centralized Control and Visibility
Stephen Tan Stephen Tan, CISA, CISM
Regional Director, Asia Pacific, ArcSight, Inc.

An internal security incident is one that is perpetrated by someone with levels of trust and access greater than that of an outsider. Though the majority of publicity about security breaches today seems to focus on outsider attacks, insider threats can be just as devastating to the organization as attacks from malicious outsiders and range from information leakage to sabotage. In this session, you will learnt how SIEM would help you to detect, investigate, response and monitor insider activities and fraud control.

11:20 am Leveraging Data Leak Prevention Technology to Secure Corporate Assets
    Siupan Chan Siupan Chan
Technical Consultant, Trend Micro Limited
Enterprises have deployed protective measures—such as VPNs, firewalls, and network monitors—to provide audit trails and prevent unauthorized external access to proprietary information. However, these solutions don’t address the rising threat from internal users. Because they have access to data assets, insiders are a major channel for information leaks, whether through deliberate policy breaches or accidental data loss (such as losing a mobile device containing personal records). To protect sensitive data, enterprises need an effective data leak prevention (DLP) solution that monitors potential information leaks at the point of use.

Get Proactive - Traditional Security Approaches vs. Proactive Security

    Sam Ghebranious Sam Ghebranious
Senior Sales Director, Asia Pacific, Lumension Security
As new and emerging threats continue to impact endpoint security, the challenge is how enterprises continually face security and support issues arising from endpoint users and their use of applications and devices. The security landscape has shifted from large, widespread attacks at the enterprise perimeter, to threats focusing on corporate endpoints, which are traditionally less secure. This presentation will focus on the differences between the traditional security method such as desktop firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware, and a more proactive or positive security model utilizing vulnerability management to shrink the endpoint target, and stopping attacks with whitelisting on both devices and applications. For more information on these solutions please visit the Lumension Security booth at the end of the presentation.

12:20 pm Join the Debate: “The IT Security Dilemma: Fast, Good, Cheap – A Case of 3 Choose 2?”
Judy Wu Moderated by Judy Wu
Research Manager, Asia/Pacific Software Research, IDC Asia/Pacific

  • Security is all about making trade-offs and hard decisions, often introducing conflict among IT and business objectives.
  • With the advancement in security technology, business processes and IT alignment with business, will this dilemma go away?
