Data center trends that are redefining the way IT will be deployed in businesses
Dr. Patrick Chan Chief Technology Advisor, IDC Asia/Pacific Emerging Technologies, IDC Asia/Pacific
Most datacenters in the Asia/Pacific region are ageing (averaging between 7 and 10 years), overloaded and not able to accommodate the new technology that is demanding formidably higher power, spasce/weight and heat dissapation requirements. This is becoming a big issue for customers trying to build more agility, flexibility and scale such that IT can become a strategic tool for the business. The problem is the age-old complexity that breeds within the IT datacenters, causing unnecessary cost and excessive redundancies. CIOs have a madate to contol operational costs and build IT that is more proactive. However, this is easier said than done, especially with the ageing datacenters, and customers are fast realising the need to revamp or rebuild their datacenters in order to stay competitive and, indeed, be able to leverage the benefits of IT. Based on indepth research done in the region and US, IDC will discuss in this presentation some of the key trends that discuss the many options available to customers especially in the backdrop of the current environment which will put pressure on IT budgets.
