  Shalini Verma Shalini Verma
Research Manager, Asia/Pacific Communications Research, IDC Asia/Pacific
Unified Communications is redefining the manner in which devices and applications are being used for communication. It is gradually bringing applications, devices, telephony and presence into its fold to create a cohesive business communication experience. In doing so, it is helping enterprises realize their vision of a new work environment that is more conducive for a distributed workforce. As "screenagers" swarm into the workplace, enterprises need to introduce communication modes that bridge the telephony and internet age. In this presentation, IDC provides a fresh perspective on the emerging virtual work environments which are driving collaboration and productivity. It discusses how unified communication powers these work environments. IDC provides insights on early trends on unified communications adoption in Asia/Pacific as vendors steer customers on the path of unifying communication.

The booming adoption of Web 2.0 is rewriting ways in which marketers and advertisers reach their consumers. While online media offer a huge potential to engage audiences, Internet users are also becoming more savvy, fragmented, fickle and selective with their media choices. Using the results of regional surveys, Claus Mortensen will demonstrate how marketers are spending their ad dollars, and whether their focus is in line with consumer motivations, perceptions and preferences of Web-based advertisements. The implications for viral marketing and future directions for online strategies are then discussed.
