IT & Communications:
Disruption Ahead |
| |
|
 |
Philippe de Marcillac
Senior Vice President,
International Business Units, IDC |
| |
|
Beneath a deceptively calm outlook for the IT
and communications markets, trends are afoot that
will reshape the industry -- and disrupt the unprepared
-- for years, if not decades to come. They start
with the "flattening" of the world under
globalization and extend to the unintended consequences
of our increased connectedness through the Internet,
convergence, and invisible computing. China, mobility,
offshoring, peer-to-peer, open source, India,
sensors, wireless, Google, demographics, oil prices,
security, Metcalfe's Law, Dynamic IT -- how do
they all fit together? Out of which challenges
will come what opportunities? In this session,
Mr. De Marcillac will analyze the interplay between
a "shrinking globe" and our "connected
world," pull out the key trends and their
implications, and thus offer an excellent starting
premise for the rest of the day's sessions to
follow.

Playing the Right
Host, Providing the Right Management: Managed Services
2.0 |
| |
|
 |
Sandra
Ng
Vice President, Asia/Pacific
Communications, Peripherals and Services Research |
| |
|
In this presentation, Ms. Ng will
be providing an update on the Managed Services marketplace
since the rising interest and entry of Telcos in
the region to gain a share of the IT sector. The
converged ICT marketplace has expanded the ecosystem,
led to changes in competitive and partnership dynamics
between Telcos, IT service providers and Network
equipment vendors. Last year, Ms. Ng gave an overview
of the emerging threat from Telcos and the potential
impact on ITSP. This year, she will be sharing what
had happened in the last 9 months and how that has
changed the marketplace. More importantly, she will
be highlighting what is likely to happen moving
forward and how the three communities come together
to compete and/or partner to serve the user community
as the latter is trying to effectively balance in-house
v.s. outsourced ICT solutions. |

Shaken and Stirred:
Where Will Future Profits in the Creation, Distribution,
and Management of Software Come From? |
| |
|
 |
Puni
Rajah
Contributing Analyst,
IDC Asia/Pacific |
| |
|
Business models in the software industry are
in a state of flux. Software as a service, subscription,
open source licensing and other models are here
to stay, and new ecosystems are forming based
on a set of business criteria that many established
ISVs and their services partners cannot meet today.
In this session, IDC will share research and insights
into how the software industry is changing in
the face of this disruption, and will identify
challenges and opportunities that will result
for software vendors as well as for the rest of
the interconnected IT industry.

What Asians Want
From Consumer Technology |
| |
|
 |
Bryan
Ma
Associate Director, Asia/Pacific
Personal Systems Research |
| |
|
With the plethora of announcements
at recent trade shows, the technology sector is
clearly heating up around consumers for potential
growth. Yet many of these ideas are coming from
other regions in the world like the US. Join IDC's
Associate Director of Asia/Pacific Personal Systems
Research, Bryan Ma in this session as he highlights
the unique buying patterns amongst Asians that could
dictate different consumer adoption than the rest
of the world. Supported with IDC's end-user survey
results, Mr. Ma will sort through all sorts of technologies,
be it audio/video products, desktop and notebook
PCs, mobile phones, and other consumer sectors,
to see what consumers will be attracted to, and
how this may in fact differ drastically even by
country within the very diverse Asia/Pacific region. |

The Dynamic Asia/Pacific:
Where are the Opportunities? |
| |
|
 |
Avneesh
Saxena
Vice President, Asia/Pacific
Systems, Storage and Software Research |
| |
|
Asia/Pacific is truly the most exciting
market to be in with two of most populous and fastest
growing economies, and a range of emerging ICT opportunities
across markets with different maturity levels. With
WTO and improving communication networks breaking
barriers, the entire world is here looking for operational
cost-benefits and/or vibrant growth from sales.
But Asia/Pacific is no one country, and the hetrogenity
calls for a deeper understanding of the markets
to unveil where the opportunities exist and how
to avail them. In this session Mr Saxena walks through
important markets and segments and will also discuss
the readiness of A/P enterprises towards Dynamic
IT. |

Group Vice President
& General Manager, Worldwide Telecommunications,
IDC |

All enterprises are de-fragmenting
their IT environments by consolidating data centers,
centralizing server and storage capacity, combining
or virtualizing call centers, and shrinking the
number of application images. To improve workforce
productivity, enterprises are are deploying thin-client,
web-based and mobile applications. This places new
burdens on the network to secure, monitor and control
application performances. Next generation IP VPNs
enable the enterprise transformation to consolidated
dynamic IT environments. This session will address
technologies and opportunities for security, compliancy,
application monitoring and WAN optimization in managed
network services. |
