IDC's Asia/Pacific Cloud Computing Conference 2010

8.30 am Registration and Welcome Coffee & Tea

9.00 am Welcome Address and Opening Remarks by IDC

9.15 am The Cloud and You: New Delivery Models Bring New Challenges
  Chris Morris,
Research Director, Asia/Pacific IT Services Research, IDC Asia/Pacific
With cloud services and technologies maturing in conjunction with stabilization and recovery of regional economies, 2010 and 2011 are already proving to be launch pads for investments in the cloud. However, the lingering impact of the global economic meltdown combined with a lack of experience in cloud deployment and some ongoing concerns about the cloud are affecting the intentions of the early mainstream cloud implementers. However, strategies are being built now and new implementation challenges are becoming apparent and solutions are being sought.

Based on IDC survey data and client interviews, this presentation examines three key areas that are important to any organization considering cloud services and technologies:
  • How the shifting goals of business are affecting your technology choices
  • Cloud Nirvana, Reality or Mirage?
  • Leveraging the Cloud for Business Benefit

9.45 am Transforming to a Cloud Ready Infrastructure - How customers are doing it
  Hemant Shah
Asean Executive, Infrastructure Business, Systems & Technology Group, Sales Program, IBM
Cloud Computing is a game changing technology and associated business models are evolving. All the enterprises are looking into Cloud based technology both to address their internal needs as well to address their customers. In this session IBM will present how to transform to a cloud ready infrastructure industrializing the IT services consumption, by practical examples.

10.15am Cloud Foundations: Darwin is right!
  Frank Feldmann
Director of Business & Technology Solutions, Red Hat Asia Pacific/Japan
Red Hat's cloud vision is unlike that of any other IT vendor. We recognize that IT infrastructure is-and will continue to be-composed of pieces from many different hardware and software vendors that must work together. We recognize that customers want to grow and improve their IT systems and operations gradually. Red Hat's strategy for the Cloud is to grow the use of virtualization so that it is not limited to a selected set of resources enabling gradual transition to private cloud deployments whilst leveraging existing investments. While preparing the environment behind the corporate firewall, Red Hat is actively developing a safe and certified ecosystem of Public Cloud providers across the globe such as Amazon, IBM, NTT Communications. In a market full of hype, Red Hat makes the cloud real and compelling Today.

10.45am Networking the Cloud: A Down-to-Earth Reality
  Greg Bunt
APAC Enterprise Architect, Juniper Networks
Whether it’s a public or private cloud, one key factor that will drive adoption is user experience. The cloud application may have the best user interface or the most powerful features but if the network in the data center where the application is stored cannot scale and perform as expected, then the poor experience will just force the user to another provider. Today’s networking architecture in the data center is antiquated dating back to more than a decade ago. With the evolution of applications, server technology and virtualisation, it is not a sustainable model as it quickly becomes too expensive and complex to scale. The cloud-ready data center network addresses this challenge with its 3-2-1 architecture and this presentation will show how it is possible to have both user experiences without sacrificing the economics in order to provide for that.

11.15am Coffee Break

11.30am Application Delivery For The Cloud. What You Need To Know…
  Philip Chua
Country Manager-Singapore, Akamai Technologies, Inc.
More and more of today's IT and business executives are evaluating cloud-based technologies to leverage the Internet's global access and reach. As they do, they're rapidly learning more about how cloud technologies provide a highly resilient and affordable on-demand infrastructure across the IT spectrum from servers to storage to security and the network. At the same time, organizations need to know more about how cloud technologies impact a company's critical enterprise applications--specifically, how these new approaches affect application performance, scale, availability and security. With customers, partners and employees distributed over vast geographies, how can cloud-based solutions deliver timely, reliable service? And given these requirements, how can you truly optimize your Internet-dependent computing platforms?

12.00pm Enterprise Cloud Computing
  Subra Shankhar
Director, Enterprise Solution Sales APAC, Intel
Cloud computing is a significant trend with the potential to increase agility and lower costs. Today, however, security risks, the lack of mature technology and standards, and other concerns prevent widespread enterprise adoption of external clouds. In developing a strategy of growing the cloud from the inside out delivers many of the benefits of cloud computing and positions an organization to utilize external clouds in the future, as supplier offerings mature and barriers to adoption are overcome. In this session, you will learn about Intel's cloud computing vision and their strategy to grow the cloud from inside out in preparation to take advantage of external clouds over time.

12.30pm Leveraging the Cloud for Business Value: Maximizing Return and Minimizing Risk in Cloud Projects
  Neeraj Jaitley
Vice President and Business head-Cloud business for TIS, Wipro Technologies
2010 will be a big year in the continuing build-out and maturation of the cloud services delivery and consumption model. Majority of users are expected to commence private cloud projects before the end of 2011. Before embarking on this journey into what is unknown territory for most, there are a number of questions which needs to be addressed, including:
  • How can enterprises select applications that are best suited to cloud deployment?
  • How should a cloud migration strategy be developed?
  • How can enterprises operate & run cloud services?

This session will address these questions and also will help to understand how cloud can be an enabler for IT infrastructure transformation.

1.00pm Networking Lunch

2.00pm Agile Cloud Infrastructure for Sustainable future
  Sunil Chavan
Director, Software Group & Cloud Solutions, Asia Pacific, Hitachi Data Systems
Increasing complexity of data centers and massive growth of data are driving requirements for end to end management as well as multiplying the resources needed to store, process and provide data and services back to end users. Organizations are turning to virtualization and cloud technologies to address these issues. But virtualization alone does not solve requirements for end-to-end management, greater cost reduction, increased security and agility to respond to business. Learn what's required in a agile data centre to experience data centre efficiency.

2.30pm Cloud Computing and AMD
  Lucas Teo
Manager, Enterprise Business Development, AMD Singapore
2010 has seen a convergence of a host of trends, 2 of which are mobility and data. Quite simply, we're doing more and more with our devices, demanding richer experiences, thereby putting a huge strain on the amount of data created. This mounting data must be processed and managed. Cloud computing offers a solution in establishing a truly connected planet through a variety of applications, from high performance services to professional and personal usage. This session will look at the differences between public and private clouds, understanding your customer's requirements for a cloud infrastructure and how you can achieve superior scalability and efficiency through the implementation of cloud computing.

3.00pm Managing Storage in a Cloud Environment
  Simon Piff
Program Director, Enterprise Infrastructure, Practice Group, IDC Asia/Pacific
The move to highly virtualized datacenters and cloud computing is having a profound effect on how end users need to think about their storage subsystems. Previously considered simply as "plumbing", the profile of storage has risen during the global financial crisis whereby data growth meant more storage acquisitions at a time when many businesses were trying to cut IT costs. The drive towards a cloud environment presents some interesting opportunities and challenges that this session will try cover in order to guide end-user around the pitfalls and potential challenges that this new architectural approach brings.
