Michael Counsel Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture, Oracle Corporation
Michael Counsel is Senior Director of Solution Engineering for Oracle in Asia Pacific and is responsible for many technology and architecture engagements and the pursuit of new and repeat business, mainly focusing on building repeatable reference models, specific business solutions involving complex requirements and driving engineering design discipline.
In the last few years Michael was the Senior Director for Enterprise and Technical Architecture for Oracle Asia Pacific Consulting and was involved in the pursuit and subsequent delivery of projects covering the full spectrum of Oracle technology and applications.
During his several years in management, Michael has deliberately maintained a hands-on capability due to the rapid change of technology in the market. While working on large projects he has designed end to end business processes and deployment models for back office and front office processing. These areas have covered Financials, Supply Chain, Human Resources and Payroll as well as the front office systems of CRM and other customer and channel management services. This is in addition to tackling core business requirements and systems enablement for his customers. A major portion of the last seven years of his work has been on large scale deployment of these systems, especially in very large scale shared services environments covering both the business and technical architecture required to achieve successful delivery. This has covered design through to operational models and has spanned multiple industries and countries within Asia Pacific.
In addition to his enterprise architecture engagements, most of Michael’s technical design activities have been for large companies looking at global or societal scale operations, often involving major transformation strategies and other ways to improve IT operational behavior. His core expertise covers these areas as well as process and service integration, identity management, security and content management. He has applied this knowledge in multiple industries including banking, insurance, telecommunications and various government domains including education and healthcare. Many of his current activities cover how to take a service oriented approach to customer requirements and how to help organizations deliver against their expected and future service levels. This is an evolving area he calls risk driven design.
Michael joined Oracle in June, 1995, after working for a company specializing in audio, video, image and document asset management and delivery services. He still has a keen interest in this domain and its relationship to Content Management. He holds a degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology from the University of Western Australia in Perth, the city where he is based at Oracle.
