The Worldwide PC Market is mature but there are still many opportunities. Emerging markets are still under-penetrated and are major growth opportunities. In addition, new low price points for portable PCs are driving demand for this form factor. Competition within the advanced markets such as North America and Western Europe is intense with vendors vying for market share gains. Philippe de Marcillac, Senior Vice President of IDC International Business Units, will examine the current state of the WW PC market and examine trends within the main geographical and market segments. He will look at the main players, with specific focus on Asian players including Lenovo and discuss which ones are best placed to gain share, and consider how the local players stack up in markets such as China.

In this presentation, Bill Rojas will review the status of 3G HSDPA/HSUPA, LTE and WiMAX licensing and commercial deployment in Asia/Pacific. He will discuss the key underlying issues that regulators are wrestling with in a number of countries. The follow-on to W-CDMA, LTE and IMT-2000 Advanced will also be introduced. He will also provide you with WiMAX and W-CDMA/HSDPA equipment and subscriber forecasts for the Asia/Pacific region and share with you the vendor strategies for WiMAX chips, modems and network infrastructure equipment. In addition, the status of HSPDA and WiMAX end user terminals will be discussed in order to set the realistic timelines for larger scale deployment of both technologies.
