Storage Virtualization Is Ready But Adoption is Slow, says IDC
Singapore and Hong Kong, September 6, 2007 - IDC's end-user survey across the Asia/Pacific (excluding) Japan region in 2007 has identified the key issues that organizations face in planning their storage infrastructure (see figure below). Security, disaster recovery, capacity, compliance and disk utilization have been listed as some of the top issues. In addition, all IT managers mentioned the need to reduce operating and storage management costs.

Only 1 Out of 5 PC Monitors Sold in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) Is a Traditional CRT, Says IDC
Singapore and Hong Kong, September 18, 2007 – According to IDC’s Asia/Pacific Quarterly PC Monitor Tracker 2Q 2007 report, the Asia/Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ) PC monitor market totalled 25.9 million units in 1H 2007, representing an increase of 6.5% over 2H 2006, and an impressive 22.5% over 1H 2006. Almost all countries exhibited a growth in sales over 2H 2006, except Hong Kong, Taiwan and Vietnam due to seasonal factors. While total CRT sales continued falling, posting a 38.0% decline compared to 1H 2006, total LCD sales in 1H 2007 were 20.5 million units, a 23.0% increase over 2H 2006. Monitors bundled with a new branded desktop accounted for 44.3% of total monitor sales, while the standalone monitor market captured 55.7% of all monitor sales in 1H 2007.

Wireless Local Loop to Drive the Voice Market in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Vietnam from 2007-2011, says IDC
Singapore and Hong Kong, September 19 2007, – IDC’s preliminary results show that the total revenue from fixed-line services in the emerging Asian countries (Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka & Vietnam) registered a 114.2% annual growth rate from 2005. The market continues to expand due to great demand for basic communication from the mass market, which IDC is forecasting a strong compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.1% over the next five years. In 2006, telecom network service (TNS) revenues increased 113.9% year-on-year while Internet access service (IAS) revenues grew 121.7%.

Business Continuity and Availability Key To Driving Adoption of Virtualization in Data Center, IDC Says
Singapore and Hong Kong, September 20, 2007 – Traditional data centers have always viewed their security, efficiency and availability with paramount importance. This is evidenced by physical security and perimeter defense measures that have been put in place. However, IDC believes that a set of new challenges will emerge for the data center managers as more established data centers in Asia/Pacific including Japan (APJ) take incremental steps to migrate to the next-generation platform which is characterized more so by service-oriented applications running over a virtualized infrastructure. These managers will have to comply with the required performance metrics and security posture that are also part of users' top priorities for improved management and automation to improve efficiency, availability and reliability.
