- Prosumers in the Asia/Pacific
(excluding Japan) region are
using enterprise mobility
applications and services
to carry out business or office
work. However, the usage of
enterprise mobility applications
is largely restricted to voice
and SMS, and certain basic
applications such as SMS applications
and value-added services like
call forwarding and call conferencing,
according to IDC's Asia/Pacific
(excluding Japan) Joint Mobility
Survey, 2006 found in the
latest report, Managing the

the Asia/Pacific PC Market
in 3Q06, IDC Reports

2006
- IDC's preliminary results
show that the Asia/Pacific
(excluding Japan) PC market
totaled 12.6 million units
in the third quarter of 2006,
representing a sequential
growth of 9% and a year-on-year
growth of 15%. Many countries
exceed the forecasts in 3Q06,
although countries like Thailand
still fell a bit short due
to the political situation
there, thus bringing total
shipments for the region to
1% above IDC’s initial
forecasts.

in the Asia/Pacific (including
Japan) Thin Client Market
in 2005 is Only the Tip of
the Iceberg, Predicts IDC
Singapore and Hong Kong,
October 26, 2006 - According
to IDC’s recently released
special report, total sales
of thin client in the Asia/Pacific
(including Japan) (APJ) market
reached 279,513 units in 2005,
representing an increase of
64% over the previous year.
Revenue likewise increased
65% over the same period.
Although PC replacement cycles
across APJ are already largely
completed, the stage is being
set by several thin client
vendors, which recognize that
the current PC life cycle
ends in about two years and
are expanding their presence
in the region. These PCs will
be due for replacement in
2008/2009, and this is when
IT managers across APJ will
consider a whole range of
options, including thin clients,
with which to swap the existing
desktop.

an annual growth rate of 36%
in 2006. Significant growth
will come from the WAN Application
Delivery (WAD) segment, as
enterprises strive to improve
business efficiency and continuity
at the branch offices. WAD
will lead the overall market
with an explosive 30% CAGR
from 2005-2010, according
