Consumers
and SOHOs Have Plenty Of Choices
When Choosing "All-In-One"
Security Package, IDC Says
Singapore and Hong Kong,
April 3, 2007 - According
to IDC's Asia/Pacific Semiannual
Security Software Tracker
1H 2006 results, the security
software market for the consumer
and Small Office/Home Office
(SOHO) segment (defined as
having 1-9 employees) in Asia/Pacific
(Excluding Japan), is estimated
to be worth US$45.9 million
in 1H 2006. This is a growth
of 48% over the same period
in 2005.

IDC
Sees Opportunities for Higher
SOA Adoption in End-User Organizations
in Asia/Pacific
Singapore
and Hong Kong, April 12, 2007 - From its recent exclusive
end-user survey of 680 Asia/Pacific
(including Japan) companies,
more than 42% of end-users
interviewed revealed that
they do not have plans to
embark on SOA projects. However,
IDC has reasons to believe
that there are opportunities
to convert these naysayers
after assessing their business
and IT priorities.

The Region is
Going "Flat", LCD Sales Overtake CRTs in the PC
Monitor Market, Says IDC
Singapore and Hong Kong,
April 18, 2007 - According to
IDC's Asia/Pacific Quarterly PC Monitor Tracker
report 4Q'06, the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan)
PC monitor market totaled 45.5 million units in
2006, representing an increase of 14.1% over the
previous year. 2006 was a landmark year, where
LCD sales overtook traditional CRT monitors
across the region for the first time. The total
LCD market in 2006 was 29.0 million units,
growing by more than 50% over 2005, and
surpassing CRT sales, which came in at 16.5
million units, falling 21.5% over 2005. The
branded market for standalone monitors grew
9.2%, and the OEM market (monitors bundled with
MNC PC vendors) grew 20.1% over 2005.

Document Solutions Will
Become a Key Product Differentiator as
Competition in the Hardcopy Hardware Market
Intensifies, IDC Says
Singapore and Hong Kong,
April 24, 2007 - According to findings from
IDC's Asia/Pacific Enterprise Imaging and
Printing Survey, 2006 (Doc
#AP126103P), the increasing page volume
opportunities will see many organizations
harnessing the power and value of IT to deal
with their document needs and problems. With
68.2% of respondents indicating that they have
not purchased and implemented a document
solution in their organization, many hardcopy
vendors are nonetheless doubtful that they can
drive significant revenue on software sales, at
least in the next one to two years, in this big
potential market.

The IDC Global Delivery
Index (GDI) is a comprehensive tool that compares
more than 30 Asia/Pacific cities using more than
30 different criteria.
- Examples of
cities covered: Adelaide, Bangalore, Dalian,
Hanoi, and Kuala Lumpur among many
others.
- Examples of
criteria used: Cost of labour, cost of rent,
language skills, and turnover rate
The GDI enlists the full
resources and insights of IDC's capabilities of
depth and breadth of coverage:
- Analyst
presence across 12 countries in Asia/Pacific
that are conducting ground research and have
local insights and expertise.
- IDC analysts
frequently visit many global delivery centres
throughout Asia/Pacific. These visits give us a
first-hand look into what facilities are
available and the capabilities of the many
different centres.
|
| "There are different risk
factors to consider when evaluating outsourcing,
offshoring, onshoring, and nearshoring. Some
factors are obviously more critical than others
and the GDI takes that into consideration" |
Conrad Chang, Research Manager, IDC Asia/ Pacific
BPO |
|
"Often times, what
differentiates leading cities from the rest is
their focus on deal-clinching factors, and the GDI
weighs that more heavily than other
factors." | |
| The Importance of Global
Delivery Today |
Managing Risk |
A Glimpse of the IDC Global
Delivery Index |
 |
IDC's interactions with the
market, highlight the following chief concerns
among key decision makers when it comes to global
delivery:
- Confusion
about offshoring, onshoring, nearshoring and how
to leverage different delivery methods for
optimal results.
- Questioning whether India is
the only viable option and wanting to find out
other global delivery alternatives.
- How to
objectively compare and quantify risks between
different locations, for example, is Bangalore
better than Dalian, and what is the basis for
comparison?
- What is
the potential of different locations for the
future, particularly second tier locations in
places such as Vietnam and Malaysia?
- IDC
research shows that the top 10 cities in 2007
for global delivery focused more on deal
clinching factors that include criteria such as
agent skills, political risk, cost of labour,
and language skills among others.
- There are
other factors that are also important in global
delivery, such as Resources & Skills,
Infrastructure, and Government Factors, all of
which are well balanced among the leading
cities.
- The
implications are also different from a service
provider point of view, and from an end-user
perspective.
|
IDC will apply a high level
of analytical rigor into the GDI through the
following processes:
Source: IDC GDI Research,
2007 |
- IDC
research shows that the outsourcing market is
growing rapidly.
- Enterprise
wide outsourcing in Asia/Pacific (Excluding
Japan) or APEJ alone will reach approximately
US$7 billion by the end of 2007 and Discrete
Outsourcing will exceed US$5 billion during the
same time.
- Underpinning the success of
outsourcing will be the ability to offer
seamless, efficient, and cost-effective global
delivery - anytime, anywhere,24 x 7 to all four
corners of the globe.
- IDC
research also indicates that global delivery is
a deal clincher in awarding contracts to
outsourced service providers who must satisfy
the needs of global clients.
